Noises Off
Apr 12-14, 2007
by Michael Frayn, directed by Terry Schoonover
Not just one play but two, Noises Off is simultaneously the traditional English sex farce Nothing On, and the backstage “drama” that develops during Nothing On’s final dress rehearsal and tour. The two begin to interweave as the characters make their exits from the hilariously mediocre onstage production, only to find themselves making entrances into the even worse nightmare going on backstage. In the end, during the disastrous final performance, the two realities can be kept separate no longer, colliding and exploding in a collective, hysterical nervous breakdown. Jealousies, rivalries and tantrums, booze, sex, wayward props, dropped lines and missed cues--without a doubt, Noises Off is the wildest and funniest backstage comedy ever written.
